Difference between Influencer marketing and word of mouth?

Influencer marketing is not something unknown, it is everywhere around us! Marketing a product or service through social influencers is what Influencer marketing is. These days Instagram has become the platform where we get to see Influencer marketing. But is Influencer marketing similar to word of mouth marketing? Let's learn more about it!

What is Influencer marketing?

Influencer marketing is a recent marketing technique wherein companies pay social influencers to promote their product or service through their social media page or by creating promotional content. Influencer marketing is a smart way of marketing a product at a minimalistic cost. You would have seen famous Instagrammers posting photographs or videos with a product, they get paid to promote such products, which is what Influencer marketing is.

I recently came across actor Vicky Kaushal's Post wearing Boult Audio Truebuds. I also saw a video posted by actress Sara Ali Khan, she created a video for promoting Head and Shoulders shampoo. It looked like a mini advertisement. Now, this is another type of Influencer marketing where social influencers get paid for creating promotional content such as the one created by Sara. Film stars and artists, YouTubers, and all types of content creators are approached to promote a product. Influencer marketing is a modern and effective way of marketing a product.

What is the difference between Influencer marketing and word of mouth marketing?

People often misunderstand influencer marketing and word of mouth marketing. Word of mouth marketing is a result of a good product or good customer service. Word of mouth marketing is not a paid service. People who get satisfied by a product share good reviews or suggest the product to others and the word of mouth spreads. Word of mouth marketing can be done by any consumer irrespective of their ability to influence the masses. While the Influencers campaign can be done only by people who are social influencers.

Self-promotion has been necessary for so many years. With changing times consumers are less likely to trust a product based on their respective advertisements and rely more on reviews of fellow consumers. Influencer marketing is the new digital marketing strategy to conquer the online market. Gone are the days when people used to blindly follow their favourite film stars and use the products they advertise.

Today people trust social influencers who are more relatable and can be trusted. Social media platforms such as Instagram and Facebook are powerful platforms for marketing a product and can be more profitable than Influencer marketing campaigns. Every social media influencer has several dedicated followers who support them. Every suggestion suggested by social influencers has more influence over people than just a mere advertisement. A social media influencer can be an expert on a particular niche. For example, a social media influencer who is an artist can influence their followers who are budding artists by suggesting a stationery product.

Conclusion:

Influencer marketing is a must to influence today's smart customers who hesitate to buy a product without checking customer reviews. There are various Influencer marketing techniques that companies can use depending upon their requirements. Nothing can ever beat the power of goodwill that a company earns amongst their customers and Influencer marketing is the key to grow your goodwill.
